Check out the latest version of VisioDevKit!

The good folks over at Visioglobe have been busy! They recently released the latest version (1.1) of the VisioDevKit. The VisioDevKit was already very cool, as it gave developers the ability to create awesome location-based apps that use NAVTEQ 3D data, but now it is even cooler!
The latest release has a ton more awesome stuff and we are very excited about it.

What kind of awesome stuff?

Well, first of all, VisioDevKit 1.1 now supports indoor navigation! Yes, Visioglobe has included indoor data via “NAVTEQ Destination Maps”, which is NAVTEQ’s indoor data product. Now, you can create a 3D navigation app that will actually take you inside buildings! The VisioDevKit 1.1 integrates sample data from NAVTEQ Enhanced 3D City Models for Munich and currently includes a sample indoor map of Newport Centre, Jersey City, NJ, USA in pre-processed format. Not only that, but the VisioDevKit also includes an indoor navigation sample application (using the included Newport Centre sample data), so you can quickly get an idea of what it is possible to create in an indoor navigation app and, at the same time, take the NAVTEQ Destination Maps sample data for a spin.

Another very cool feature of the VisioDevKit 1.1 is that it now supports Android app development! Yes, you heard that right, VisioDevKit 1.1 now supports both iOS and Android! This is awesome news for all you Android developers out there!

That is two very major updates for this version! Add that to all the other features of the VisioDevKit and you can see, the VisioDevKit is something you need to download and test out!

Still not convinced? Check out this list of some of the major features already available in the VisioDevKit…
  • Create and add a 3D map view to your application.
  • Sophisticated rendering of 2D and 3D maps.
  • Easy to add interactive elements to the 3D environment (clickable images, dynamic POIs).
  • Easy to integrate additional content offerings into the app, such as routing, NAVTEQ LocationPoint™ Advertising, traffic, or other services from NAVTEQ or other content providers.
  • Can be used for both on-board data (typically 3D content which is large in size) and off-board data (other services, e.g. routing).
  • High performance and scalability − can scale up to very large cities represented in 3D.
  • Advanced camera handling and manipulation features allow developers to control the camera position and connect it to existing routing solutions as well as connect the camera with compass to create advanced 3D-enhanced navigation solutions.
  • Customize place names and icons on 2D maps.
  • Compute routes and customize route rendering between places on 2D maps.
  • Collision control with buildings.
  • Easily integrate any positioning technology as the NAVTEQ maps are already geo-referenced.
  • Making the most of hardware-accelerated graphics on mobile devices, the SDK delivers advanced image quality and fluidity to applications developed.
The VisioDevKit is very exciting, and with these new update, it is just getting better and better! Visit the VisioDevKit page on NN4D to download this SDK as this is the only place you can get this awesome 3D rendering engine and SDK!
